“By any yardstick this is one of the most remarkable pubs in Dublin. The Penny Black appears to have been there forever. The impact on the Dublin pub scene is but a poor second to the enormous role of importance which this pub plays in the ancient but newly settled environs of Tallaght/Templeogue. The Penny Black is very properly considered one of the strongest exponents of the community type pub category. The Penny Black is very unusual in that it has been developed on the concept of the Penny Black stamp which came into existence on January 10th 1840. More unusual perhaps is the architectural exterior design of the pub which more resembles a church than a conventional pub. ”
